Do you have a dream, but you don’t have the money to pursue it?

No problem!  Joining Mitch Matthews is New Zealand’s own Lise Cartwright.  Lise is a self-made expert on the art of working the side hustle.

When she felt unsatisfied with her job, Lise started freelance writing to exercise her creative muscles and earn some extra money.  After 18 months of continually expanding her clientele, she handed in her resignation at her “bad fit” job and became a full time writer.  Now Lise has found her true passion… writing books (she’s published 6 books in just 5 months!).  Plus, she’s dominated the Amazon charts!  Now, she wants to help you find success with your own “side hustle.”

Money is an obstacle that often trips up a person before they ever take a step towards their dreams.  Fortunately, Lise is a pro at teaching people the art of the side hustle, so you can make extra money through skills you already possess!  Now you can discover how Lise first got into writing (4:30), and how she knew when the time was ripe to break away from her former career (9:55).  She also:

  • Clearly defines her leap number (14:23)
  • Gives the run-down on writing a book (24:36)
  • And discusses the benefits of being a relative expert

You can easily talk yourself out of anything, especially when it involves money.  But even if your side hustle doesn’t directly involve your dream, it can be used to fund it.  So beat that “money excuse” before it has the chance to stop you in your tracks!  And learn the fine art of the “side hustle” to supplement your income today!

I have really enjoyed listening to the Mitch Matthews Dream Thinq Do podcast series. I have been motivated by many of them! I am a recently divorced STAHM mother and after 9 years of being at home, I quickly found that volunteering, being a member of the school PTO board as well as fundraising was not qualifying me to many jobs. I have been searching for some way to keep my flexible schedule for the kids, find something I’m passionate about and qualified for and this series, this Podcast in particular, has given me the permission to move forward with something I’m passionate about! Since I couldn’t find a position that allowed me to chat with people, drink wine and pin things on Pinterest, Lise Cartwright, you have just inspired me to GIVE MYSELF PERMISSION to begin on my newest journey!!! I have let the “I’m not an expert”, “I’m not qualified” excuses get in my way, but listening to this podcast and hearing you say you’re expert enough was exactly what I needed to hear. So thank you to both of you for not only providing me with entertainment and education, but hope as well. I’m looking forward to reading, listening and learning more from you!

Hi Jodi, thanks so much for your kind words and I’m so glad that you’ve decided to give yourself permission, that’s awesome! There is always hope and you can do and be anything you want, you just have to allow yourself the opportunity to do so!

Love the podcast with Lise Cartwright. She really sends the message to “just go for it” reminding us a dream cannot be realized if you don’t go after it. Thanks Mitch for another great interview !

Hi Jill, thanks for your kind words, appreciate it! And I’m definitely a major proponent of “just go for it’ – everything else can be figured out on the journey!

Thanks for sharing this. I too like the, just go do it, approach. I could realy use some help with this. Most of my past going and doing has resulted in me being really busy doing things, and not getting the results I hoped for. This has also resulted in a lot of loss that I never intended or imagined. Now more than ever, I want to just go and do what will produce the desired results, without putting all my time, energy, and focus into it. I don’t want to make the same mistakes, or suffer the same losses. What Lise has to share just might be the helpful info and encouragement I need.

Jim – I’m so glad this offered some encouragement! It’s so important to experiment… try it… put it out there… see what clicks and what doesn’t… learn fast and keep producing. Most artists will tell you that their first works didn’t break through… but they stayed with it… and they finally found an audience. Start. Experiment. Take those small but consistent steps. Learn. And I’m betting it will pay off big in the end! Thanks so much for listening!

You can do it Jim! Keep moving forward and as Mitch says, ‘Start. Experiment. Take small consistent steps.’ – couldn’t have said it better myself!

Thank you Jill for offering your book to listeners for free! I kept thinking to myself, “I’ve got to get that book,” throughout the entire podcast. Needless to say, my day was made. It’s amazing how putting the right content into your mind can release the creative juices necessary to get started or look at things in a different way.

My take away from this podcast was to take the ordinary and flip it around, take it out of the box it’s been put in, and examine it through a new lens. Combine a new perspective with my skills and talents and there is surely to be something of value there to either 1. write a book or 2. start another type of side hussle.

Thanks Mitch for sharing this rockstar with the world! Loving Dream.Think.Do.!

Loved this interview! Have been reading Lisa and laying out a plan. Especially loved her concept that NOT being an expert actually uniquely qualifies you to reach the large segment of the population that are at that exact same spot. So, presto, you are an expert! Great way to think about it. Thanks for having her on.

So glad it is helping Marcia! All it takes is a different perspective and viola, new outlook on life! Everyone has something to say and in a way that resonates with someone else. You just have to find the way to get it out to that person! Good luck 🙂

Mitch, Thank you for sharing Lisa Cartwright with us! Hearing a real story with real challenges that isn’t focused on the 6 figure salary etc., but rather pushing through the challenges and just doing it without thinking sooooo much (“Done is better than perfect”). I have been struggling for 2 years to redefine myself and finally feel like I heard a story I can find inspiration in because it’s about listening to your true self and not focusing on $$$. Thank you!!!

I’m so glad you found it inspiring Maureen! It’s definitely not about the $$$, sure they matter, but ultimately, what matters most is whether you’re happy doing what you do. You can do it!
